My digital logic study guide: gates to state machines
How I built up the logic unit in my head:
1. Gates and truth tables. Be able to write any small function as a truth table.
2. Simplification. Practice turning truth tables into simpler expressions.
3. Combinational building blocks: multiplexers, decoders, adders.
4. Sequential logic: latches, then flip-flops, then registers.
5. State machines: draw the states first, then derive the transitions.
Redrawing each circuit from memory was the best test of whether I understood it.
